COMMUNITY INFOSOURCE PAST
LIVING WELL INTERNATIONAL
Living Well International is a partnership between Community InfoSource and two African communities, one in Ghana and the other in Congo. Projects are set up to promote community development, wealth creation, sustainability, enhanced health and well being.
The Living Well in Ghana worked with the Abokosu Community Development Association on a project to develop a rainwater harvesting and treatment system for a rural school with 200 children and staff. The project planned solar panels as a reliable and clean source of energy to power the UV treatment unit and milling machine.
The Living Well in Congo project worked in partnership with a local NGO Action Thalita Koum and developed four components: vocational training, support, professional integration and employment to support young people gain valuable skills to obtain their first steps into employment.
More information on both projects can be found here
LIVING WELL IN GLASGOW
Living Well In Glasgow was a community based project focusing on health and well being which was developed for those who had come to Britain from a different culture and climate. Living Well In Glasgow was created in partnership with the Scottish Asylum Seekers Resident's Association. The aim of the project was to provide information and raise awareness of health issues for refugees and asylum seekers. |
These two sets of workshops delivered on healthy eating and cooking alongside a focus on "Mental Wellbeing" which were very well received. We are currently recruiting more volunteer fundraisers to deliver new workshops.
TAKING IT LIKE A MAN
Ghazi Hussein was one of Community InfoSource's directors, and he created and ran a series of workshops around Glasgow teaching artistic Arabic Calligraphy.
These workshops were very effective in building confidence within participants and growing skills whilst increasing knowledge of positive aspects of the Middle East and it's culture. 'Taking It Like A Man' by Ghazi Hussein, is a beautiful book with beautiful calligraphy. You can order it from amazon. |
SURVIVORS OF TORTURE AWARENESS TRAINING
Back in 2006 Community InfoSource created and developed training for individuals and organisations working with survivors of torture. The project was pioneering, and it has now been recognised as a key part of public sector training.
DOOR STEP FIRST STEP
Door Step was created to empower Scotland's refugees and migrant workers to access their rights. These groups of people are entitled to housing, employment and welfare rights.
The lack or reliable and accessible information and advice leaves them vulnerable to poor housing, poverty and exploitation and work. Door Step Housing Action worked to inform people of their rights in order to improve their quality of life.
