Shocking negligence and inhumane treatment in care of asylum seekers, by official agencies
CIS is shocked and angry about the complete negligence and inhumane treatment of asylum seekers. Two of the most recent examples include that of the 136 unaccompanied minors seeking asylum who were apparently kidnapped from a hotel in Brighton used by the Home Office, with 79 still unaccounted for. The second is the Okwo family in Coatbridge who were evicted with their three small children from their flat and left in the cold and without any support for over 12 hours on a sub-zero day by all official agencies including Home Office contracted asylum housing and advice agencies, Mears and Migrant Help, and the police. We wonder how many unaccompanied minors seeking asylum housed in Scotland are also going missing and what is being done by all those responsible here to ensure this does not happen. We encourage you to raise these cases with your elected representatives and to call on them to oppose the hostile environment UK governments have developed and fight for a more humane asylum system in the UK which treats people as human beings who need safety and asylum. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/21/revealed-scores-of-child-asylum-seekers-kidnapped-from-home-office-hotel https://twitter.com/PositiveActionH

CIS is completely opposed to the UK Government’s announcement on 14 April 2022 that it is seeking to 'offshore' the UK’s asylum system to Rwanda - i.e. sending asylum seekers to Rwanda and handing over the responsibility for asylum claims of asylum seekers who arrive in the UK 'illegally' - i.e. without the correct papers, but who can get papers when you are fleeing war and other immediate dangers.
