Community InfoSource Opposes UK-Rwanda asylum deal

CIS is completely opposed to the UK Government’s announcement on 14 April 2022 that it is seeking to 'offshore' the UK’s asylum system to Rwanda - i.e. sending asylum seekers to Rwanda and handing over the responsibility for asylum claims of asylum seekers who arrive in the UK 'illegally' - i.e. without the correct papers, but who can get papers when you are fleeing war and other immediate dangers.
This policy, modelled on Australia’s shocking system, is inhumane, cruel and breaches international law and moral standards on providing a safe and welcoming environment for asylum seekers fleeing conflicts, oppression, trauma and persecution.
At a time when the UK is claiming to welcome Ukrainian refugees it is doing the absolute opposite for other seekers of safety and asylum who are fleeing terrible wars and other oppressive situations, some also perpetrated by Russia in other parts of the world. This is appalling and hugely upsetting.
